As I approach the occasion of my 50th birthday today, I find myself looking back on the journey that led me to this point. Six years ago, I took a leap of faith to establish CARE STL, a decision that coincidentally tied to the founding day of this organization. Reflecting on this path, there have been moments of doubt, exhaustion, and heartache as I question why I chose this challenging road. Yet, every doubt fades away when I think about the 13,858 lives (and counting) that we have saved since the inception of CARE STL on July 25, 2018. The journey of saving lives has been arduous, and the obstacles seem insurmountable at times. It is hard to put into words the depth of the difficulties we encounter. However, in those moments of struggle, my original purpose shines through - to save lives, one precious soul at a time. The road ahead may be uncertain and challenging, but the unwavering dedication to making a difference remains steadfast in my heart.
STOP Animal Abuse.
The horrors of animal abuse that have come to light in the past 6 years are beyond comprehension. The stories of dogs burned alive, strangled with telephone cords, or beaten to death are sickening and heartbreaking.
The images of embedded collars, wounds from scalding liquids, and cries of pain from stabbing and beating are etched in my memory, leaving me to question the depths of human cruelty. How can anyone harm our loyal companions, our so-called "man's best friend," in such a barbaric manner?
Despite the darkness that surrounds these cases, my team and I come together to provide support, care, and love to these innocent victims. We refuse to harbor hatred towards those responsible for such heinous acts, choosing instead to focus on the healing and rehabilitation of the animals in our care. But the question remains - why? Why do some individuals choose to inflict such unimaginable pain and suffering on defenseless creatures who only seek love and companionship?
As we confront these atrocities, let us not turn a blind eye or deaf ear to the cries of these voiceless beings. Let us stand together, united against animal abuse, and work towards a world where compassion and empathy triumph over cruelty and indifference. Together, we can be a voice for the voiceless, a beacon of hope for those in need, and a force for positive change in the world.
STOP Starvation.
The tragedy of animals starving to death is a heartbreaking reality that we face all too often. In 52 weeks, it is nearly impossible not to encounter a dog who has suffered from severe neglect and starvation every week. The conditions in which these animals are found are often too distressing to share publicly, as they serve as a stark reminder of the cruelty and neglect they have endured.
At CARE STL, our mission goes beyond providing physical healing to these animals. We also strive to seek justice for the voiceless victims of starvation and neglect. While we may not be able to share the full extent of their suffering, we can share the remarkable transformation that takes place when these dogs are given a second chance at life. The resilience and gratitude shown by these animals as they are nursed back to health are truly awe-inspiring.

The heartbreaking reality of animals being struck by cars is a tragedy that we witness far too frequently. Over the past 6 years, we have seen countless animals rescued after being hit by a car or falling victim to gunshot wounds. The sight of these injured creatures, some barely clinging to life, as they arrive at our clinic is a harrowing experience that evokes deep emotions within us.
Many of these animals require immediate medical attention, and the outcomes can vary from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions. It is not uncommon for these resilient beings to undergo surgeries, including amputations of one or more limbs. In the face of such dire circumstances, it is our unwavering commitment to never give up on any life that sustains us. We believe in giving every animal a fighting chance, even in the most challenging medical cases.
